In 2004, approximately 41,000 women died of breast cancer in the United States, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. I have supported the Susan G. Komen Foundation for many years in their support of cancer victims and search for a cure. Supporting the effort is important not because it's a trendy thing to do; it's about giving back to the community in which we live so we can help enrich the lives of others. Early detection is vital to lower the risk of dying from the disease. Understanding the facts about breast cancer will help women get screening tests and find the cancer early, when it's most treatable.
